5 million people to work from home next week

Home workingThursday, May 15 will be National Work from Home Day. It could be the largest mass absence from work for a generation. An estimated five million people will not be coming in to work, but none of them will be making excuses, and none of their employers will be accusing them of skiving.
This will be the third National Work from Home Day organised by Work Wise UK, a national not-for-profit initiative to promote “smarter” working practices - such as flexible, remote and mobile working, and working from home. Its objective is for half the working population, some 14 million people, to be given the opportunity to work smarter by 2011.

I tend to work from home around two days per week. A few years ago I built a log cabin at the bottom of the garden. Equiped with broadband and phone lines, and electric heat and light it represents a great work place.

However with the economy getting tighter I have found that I tend to go into the office more to be more ‘visible’. That way I am probably less likely to lose my job if there are any lay-offs.

Not sure how call centre agents could work from home, how will they answer their calls?

Apart from that if suitable for the type of work you are doing its probably a good idea.
