A contact centre has completed a sponsored cycle to raise money for typhoon victims in the Philippines.

With over 1,700 staff in two centres in the Philippines, Firstsource UK employees wanted to show solidarity and support for their colleagues affected by the disaster.

Staff at three of the company’s UK contact centres, in Middlesbrough, Belfast and Londonderry, carried out a range of fundraising activities, including a sponsored cycle using exercise bikes during their breaks.

Over 50 staff cycled and completed a total of 2,691 miles in sponsored exercise sessions that lasted between 30 minutes and two hours. The staff raised a total of £1,347 for the Disasters Emergency Committee’s Philippines relief appeal, part of a fundraising year which saw Firstsource staff raise over £23,000 for various good causes in 2013.

“This particular cause was important to show our support for colleagues in the Philippines,” said Laura Hourican, Human Resources General Manager at Firstsource. “It is additionally encouraging to see that over 10% of Firstsource employees donate to charity each month through our payroll giving scheme.”
