Like you I got very frustrated by calling into those call centres. They often make my blood boil. I find that the long queues and the phone menus put me in a bad mood before I have even spoken to anybody.

I now avoid call centres and write instead. Unless it is really urgent or quite complex and you have to speak to someone. You can lay out all your concerns in a letter and generally you get a reply.

I've tried the websites and emailing a few of them and it sometimes works, but sometimes it takes ages to respond (if at all) and you can get bland answers.

This way I don't get so worked up and stay in control.

The main problem I have is the call centres that phone me up. I registered with the Telephone Preference Service but I still get a few that come through.
