Call centre staff help Children in Need
Employees from contact centres across the country answered calls from Children in Need viewers last Friday, taking thousands of pounds of donations to help transform the lives of disadvantaged children in the UK.
45 members of staff from Conduit’s two Cardiff and one Swansea sites spent their evening at the BT Stadium House in Cardiff, manning 70 phone lines alongside BT staff.
BBC Children in Need has been raising money for UK children who are affected by illness, poverty or disability through a telethon for nearly 30 years.
Every year the significant public donations are administered to community projects and charities that make a huge difference the quality of children’s lives.
This year donations from across the country totalled over £20million which went to hundreds of projects focused on helping children across south Wales and the rest of the UK.
Neil Evans, managing director of Conduit said: “We are always very supportive of charity events at Conduit and our team is always extremely helpful, giving up their free time and putting in significant effort to help worthy causes.
“I am proud to have such a generous team and applaud them for their valuable contribution.”
Orbit Group’s Customer Service Centre gave Pudsey a helping hand on Friday 20 November as 70 staff took to the phones to answer over 650 calls for Children in Need.

Staff from the Group’s Midlands offices volunteered to man the phones and took £29,675 in pledges from the public.
It wasn’t just the phone operators that were popping on the Pudsey ears, staff from across the Group had been busy baking cakes, holding raffles and donning fancy dress to raise over £872 for the worthy cause.
Even the Group’s Chief Executive, Paul Tennant, raised £62 when staff sponsored him to do 50 press-ups and a cartwheel!
Paul said, “This is the ninth year running that Orbit Group has volunteered its call centre services. There was a fantastic atmosphere on the night and we’re all proud to have helped make a difference to disadvantaged children in the UK.”

For the twelfth year running, AXA Life in Bristol donated its call centres to BBC Children in Need on Friday 20th November and over a hundred volunteers took donations from callers until midnight.
Throughout the day AXA Life raised money through ticket sales for The Pudsey Factor – where employees sought to impress Danni Minogue, Louis Walsh, Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell impersonators in front of nearly 2,000 spectators at the AXA Centre in Bristol.
AXA Life employees helped to raise £17,000 through an online auction containing over a hundred lots as well as cake sales and a sponsored fancy dress.

By half-past midnight, AXA PPP healthcare’s call centre in Tunbridge wells had taken the largest sum of donations for Children in Need out of all the 52 participating call centres across the UK. Employees from the medical insurer also raised £5,400 through a range of activities including cake sales, busking, shoe shining, raffles and quizzes.

Big hearted staff at Glasgow call centre RESPONSE have raised over £1,500 for Children in Need by taking part in a variety of fun activities to support the charity.

Staff got into the giving spirit and took part in various events including a pyjama party, team leaders were sponsored to take calls, as well as a few male members of staff volunteering to get their legs waxed, all for a good cause.
Amongst all the fun, there was also face painting, bake sales and a chocolate fountain and even managing director Brian Bannatyne and other directors joined in the fun, by raffling off their car parking spaces for a day.
Speaking after the event, Brian said:
“Children in Need is such a wonderful charity and we are pleased to support it. To raise £1,500 in one day is absolutely fantastic, especially in the current climate.
“All the staff had such a great time taking part in the activities which took place and I’d like to thank them all for giving so generously and to the team leaders for being such good sports.”
