Call centre takes steps towards reducing carbon footprint

The Call Connection Green Team

An Ipswich-based call centre has launched its ‘Greener Living Project’ this week, which is an initiative aimed at making itself carbon neutral.Call Connection employs over 300 staff, and to complement changes the business has already made to its practices, bosses have set staff the task of helping to further reduce the company’s carbon footprint. A ‘Green Launch Day’, was held on Monday 27th October in the firm’s offices to kick off the project.

A committed ‘Green Team’ has been set up involving employees from all areas of the business, with the aim of developing and managing environmental initiatives. The team’s remit includes promoting recycling and reuse, promoting the use of recyclable products both in and out of the company, promoting the purchase of local produce and generally making employees more aware of what they can do to help, whilst offering some fun activities to tie it all together.

Highlights of ‘Green Launch Day’ included a selection of local produce for agents to nibble during the day, competitions and quizzes with ‘green prizes’, a clothing collection bank for Cancer Research UK, and a carbon footprint calculator for staff to calculate their own carbon mark.  In addition to this, staff have created their own guide for employees to understand more about household waste and recycling.

Competitions have already been launched to create a unique recycling logo for Call Connection, and employees designed a “Greener Living” poster, which is to be displayed on notice boards around the building.  Recycling has been prioritised, with recycling points situated throughout the offices, and more recently, Call Connection has set about buying in recycled pens, pencils, paper and notepads from a new stationery supplier to show a long-term commitment to being green.

Graeme Kalbraier, Managing Director of Call Connection commented on the project: “’Green Launch Day’ kicks off the start of a very worthwhile campaign for Call Connection employees to become more environmentally aware. We all know how important it is to take care of our environment, and even small changes can make a difference. We are striving to make Call Connection a carbon neutral company, and by organising the ‘Greener Living Project’, we hope to give employees, and also the public, some ideas to help achieve this”.

Call Connection also plans to plant several trees, bushes and shrubs in the local community to help start offsetting its carbon footprint.
