Call centre Sport Relief round up
Sport Relief was once again a huge success with over £31 million raised so far.
Here are some highlights from the call centres around the country who supported the event.
Mondial Assistance, HPI, The Listening Company, EDF Energy, beCogent and Conduit to name a few…
Once again Mondial Assistance volunteered its call centre services to take pledges for Sport Relief, and dealt with over 2,000 calls, taking a hugely impressive £54,564.17!
Lisa Amor, Service Team Co-ordinator, took the largest amount of money on the night, reaching a grand total of almost £3,500.

Over 100 employees at Mondial House volunteered their Friday night to organise the event and handle telephone donations from 7pm to midnight. Donations made on the night, and throughout the campaign, will help change the lives of poor and disadvantaged people in the UK and around the world.
To keep spirits high throughout the night, employees were treated to entertainment in the form of performances from Balloon Artist Andrew Smith, head and shoulder massages at desks, and sport-related challenges such as a Hula Hoop competition run by Virgin Active employees. Local businesses including Debenhams, Jury’s Inn, Indulgence Confectionery, Croydon Park Hotel and Tiger Tiger also provided raffle prizes and treats for goody bags. Crystal Palace Football Club donated free tickets for all volunteers, and delicious food was provided by Simply Lunch and India Dining. All this guaranteed a successful and exciting night raising funds.

HPI staff dressed up as 118-118 characters
Over 70 employees from Salisbury-based HPI contributed to Sport Relief by helping to man phone lines on Friday 19th March. The leading vehicle information expert took over 2,500 donations and a staggering £74,000, and raised further £1,100 in-house with a variety of staff fundraising antics in the run-up to the event.
Volunteers from HPI took part in jovial and energetic mood all in aid of the Sport Relief charities. Staff supported the HPI fete held on the day, which included a BBQ, a bottle stand, one- and three-mile runs, and even Wii competitions for the more competitive of the staff members. HPI’s sister company, Audatex, based in Reading, took their sporting skills to the bowling alleys, raising a further £48 towards Sport Relief.
Andy Entwistle, Operations Director of HPI said; “The day turned out to be enormously enjoyable for everyone at HPI, who approached Sport Relief with great enthusiasm. More importantly, they managed to raise a fantastic £74,000 in pledges making the day’s activities a great success. Last year HPI supported Comic Relief raising £1,250 in-house and taking in £65,000 pledges through the call centre and we are delighted to have beaten our own record!”
100 volunteers from the Newcastle branch of The Listening Company manned the phones, taking 4,000 calls to collect cash donations for the biennial charity fundraiser. Sales advisors, team managers and site directors donned sports outfits and worked shifts from 6pm to 2am.

The call centre in full swing
This is the first time that The Listening Company has taken calls for Sport Relief and staff at the Newcastle site marked the build-up to the event by holding a series of Olympic-style office events throughout the week including paper airplane competitions and a hat stand challenge whilst several members of staff raised money on the night by waxing their chests.
Nick Mattlock, site director at the Newcastle site, said: “It was a phenomenally good evening for all involved. The volunteers, many of whom came in fancy dress and had their faces painted to celebrate the occasion, were all immensely proud when the lines finally closed at 2am. This is typical of the spirit of Newcastle and a glowing testament to what The Listening Company has achieved since opening this site just 18 months ago.”
Employees at EDF Energy in Doxford Park warmed up for a full day of fundraising activity when the office was transformed into an official Sport Relief pledge centre to take donation calls from the public during the live BBC evening event.

Hundreds of employees planned fundraising events from sponsored mile walks around the business park to a workout with members of the training team leading colleagues in some warm-up exercises . All staff also had the option of paying £1 to wear sporty clothing to work.
On Saturday March 20 Dean Bowen joined his power kite team to attempt to complete a marathon (26 miles) on a buggy pulled by a kite. The Kiteathon has set out to raise at least £500 for Sport Relief but Dean, a team manager at EDF Energy, and his team have already raised more than £600.
On Sunday 21 March, 22 keen footballers played a charity match at Ryhope Recreation Park to help boost the EDF Energy donation total.
Some 200 volunteers, including EDF Energy staff, family and friends, worked in shifts on about 75 donated phone lines.
It was red sports socks and a Fame theme for staff at beCogent who got well and truly into the spirit of things to raise money for Sport Relief.

beCogent staff get into 'fame' spirit
This is the second year agents, managers, support staff and Company Directors came together to raise funds for the cause, along with volunteering their time until midnight to take pledges from the public.
Staff spent the day fundraising by doing various activities such as coming into work wearing red sports gear, selling Sport Relief t-shirts, bake sales, raffles, Wii games tournament and the cycle challenge to Paris – on an exercise bike, not on a real one!
From all these activities staff from all four beCogent sites managed to raise more than £2850.
More than 100 beCogent staff also manned the phones at the firms Airdrie headquarters from six o’clock until midnight and took an amazing £74,000 worth of pledges, while enjoying lots of free food and drink, kindly donated by local companies.
Employees at Cardiff-based outsourcing contact centre Conduit aimed to top the £110,000 Sport Relief donations calls the company took in 2009 with their efforts this year.
A total of 130 volunteers from across the Conduit staff base manned 100 phone lines at their Cardiff Hodge House site on the evening of the 19th March, helped by volunteers from other local employers including the DVLA, Virgin Media, Vertex, the Wales Contact Centre Forum, Working Word Public Relations, Draig Recruitment and GMAC.
“A big thank you to all the volunteers and generous donations we have received for the raffle for the evening.”
Volunteers were treated to a buffet and entertainment, a luxury free raffle with, among the many prizes on offer, limited edition Sky boxes, and Dancing on Ice tickets.
