Data Protection Act on Business to Business Calls

Can anyone offer advice on how the DPA impacts on Biz to Biz calls in terms of what checks need to be made and what information can be shared with a caller? As we do not take dates of birth there are limited other pieces of information and the caller may not necessarily be the person that opened the account with us.

My understanding is that the DPA relates only to Living Identifiable Individuals, so therefore does not apply.

From your question, I take it that you are referring to business customers (as opposed to sales calls) in which case it may be a solution to have a note of authorised contacts who can make changes, etc?

Thanks Scott,

I've been trying to think how to phrase that for a day or so now.....

OK, I didn't look at the FSA or Commissioners sites I must admit.

Although my field (Medical Insurance) the idea of having 'authorised persons'
who have authority to amend and edit may possibly be a good idea if for nothing
other than due diligence should an incorrect/unauthorised change be made.
