Can you settle an disagreement? One of my collegues believes that as we hot desk the company should give us time to find a desk and sign into the systems. ie if the shift starts at 9am and it takes her 2 minutes to locate a computer that's ok. I say that she should arrive a few minutes early.

Which one of us is right?

I would say that you probably both are right.

Technically your attendance should be from when you walk into the department.

The challenge is that if the recording system is linked to logging in a the desk then you will tend to be shown up as late, even if you technically were not. This would not show up so well on your statistics. In the long run, if there is a downturn in the company it will tend to be the 'poor performers' who are let go first.

I personally would always arrive a few minutes early. It means that you will not be so late if there is a minor transport problem.
