I need to revamp my small call centre. I need ideas on everything possible to smarten the whole thing up that people/collegues will notice quickly...for example seating arrangments, uniforms, and any other suggestions or ideas other people may have used.

There seem to be a few ideas that could work

1. Clean desk policy. This will tidy the whole place up very quickly.
2. Fresh paint on the walls. You couldprobably get the maintenance team to brighten up the place. Failing that you could get teh team in on the weekend to give it a fresh coat of paint.
3. Replace the carpet. This would help out.
4. Uniforms - these could be as simple as polo shirts. You could meet some resistance here, so you need to make it optional.
5. Posters and wall boards on the way into teh call centre. These can be very powerful and can show case the work you do. You can highlight some of the statistics that you are most proud of such as custoner satisfaction, net promoter or even percentage of calls answered in 20 seconds.

Plants will also be a possible improvement. We rent our plants and the company will look after them. They come by once every month and we have to do absolutely nothing (not even give them water).

See that they are real plants. Plastic plants will look cheap after 6 months or so.

Late to the discussion, but you could develop a quick and simple rewards programme by individual or team whereby they get to blow up a helium balloon and fix it to their chair or workstation each time they close a deal / get a compliment / hit their ASA target / etc...

Saw this once and promoted some healthy internal competition and banter and was very visual to anybody walking by. The individual inflating their own balloon also creates a little event that can help break up the day.
