Introducing Saturday working

I'm doing a project on how you would move a call centre from working Monday to Friday to Monday to Saturday.(with currently a 35 hours working week).Work force made up of part/full time.

Thinking outside the box!!!

Any thoughts?

I would have thought that the first approach would be to ask for volunteers to see if anyone wants to work on Saturdays. It may suit some people better - for example as the partner may be able to provide child care.

You can then start to recruit new hires working on different shift patterns e.g Tuesday to Saturday.

In many ways Saturday working is no different to the way that most shops operate.

I would be careful though about forcing your existing employees to work on Saturdays as this would drive down morale.

One call centre I visited used flexible shifts - offering people the change to work the shift they wanted as long as it included one saturday per month.
