having just had an offer of free private help effectively removed as I'd brashly included my home phone number I feel I should comment. Normally I would do so by PM as I don't believe in questioning mods/admins publicly but PM isn't an option here (Which rather accounts for the inclusion of my personal contact details in the first place)

Whilst I maintain that it was quite clear from the message that I was offering my personal time freely and had clearly stated no commercial interest, I DO appreciate that it is difficult or impossible to distinguish between personal and commercial contact.

But...

If your interest is in cultivating a helping community rather than just selling advertising space I'd strongly urge you to consider enabling PM's. Like me, many people here may wish to help another - but would be unwilling or unable to do so publicly.

With neither PMs nor the ability to exchange personal contact information such aid is clearly stifled.

Anyway, just my 2cents.
