Staff at call centres across the UK are invited to learn a new skill as part of an annual fundraising event organised by a national deaf healthcare charity.

SignHealth is encouraging companies to participate in its sign2sing event, a world-record-breaking attempt for the most people signing and singing a song simultaneously.  The current record is 114,277, and SignHealth is hoping to smash this and involve more than 175,000 people. The event will take place on Wednesday, 6 February 2013 at 2.45pm (GMT). People from all over the country and overseas are invited to sign a song, entitled ‘sign2sing’, which has been composed especially for the event.

Steve Powell, Chief Executive at SignHealth, explained: “This is the third time we have organised the event and in the past we have mostly involved schools. However, this year we would like call centres to join in with the fun too and help us break the world record.”

“Whole companies or departments can take part and the event could be held in whatever space businesses have available such as a meeting room or even a foyer.  Alternatively, call centres could team up with a school in their area to take part. Hundreds of schools across the UK have already signed up.”

SignHealth is asking call centres that decide to take part in sign2sing to film or photograph their performances and share them on its social media pages.

Steve added: “sign2sing is a fundraiser and on the day we are asking everyone to wear a scarf in return for a suggested £1 donation from everyone participating in the event. If businesses are unable to take part in the world record attempt, they can still support the event by making sign2sing a fundraising day. ”

The money raised will be used to continue the charity’s work helping to improve the mental and physical health and well-being of deaf people, including deaf children.
