Winners of the Welsh Contact Centre Awards 2012

British Gas winners of the best contact centre over 100 seats

Six Welsh contact centre employees and eleven companies have received top awards for being the stars of the Welsh contact centre industry over the past twelve months.

Rebecca Cook of Conduit, Julia Phan of Admiral, Matthew Parry of British Gas, Catrin Jones of ING Direct UK, Angela Amin of Barclaycard Loans, and David Wright of Logica were recipients of Welsh Contact Centre Awards at a glittering ceremony at Cardiff City Stadium.

The winners were presented with their awards by Torchwood and West End star John Barrowman in front of a record crowd of 600 contact centre professionals, suppliers and supporters.

This year for the first time, awards were given for two new categories: best call centre of less than 100 personnel, won by RCN Direct, and more than 100 personnel, won by British Gas (pictured above).

Admiral Group, BT, HSBC, Legal & General, Logica, and MOJ picked up further company awards for categories including Best Use of Technology, People Development and Customer Service.

Companies that were highly commended include ING Direct UK, Conduit and British Gas. Stephen Donavon of Admiral Group was also highly commended in the Trainer/Coach of the Year category.

The Welsh Contact Centre Awards, which have been running for 14 years, celebrate the excellence of individuals, teams and companies working within Wales’ 160 contact centres. Despite the effects of the recession, the industry still employs 30,000 people and pumps £400m a year into the Welsh economy.

Sandra Busby, managing director of the Welsh Contact Centre Forum, said: “All of the winners should be very proud of themselves. Individuals, teams and companies have been recognised for their achievements in keeping this industry one of the only ones in Wales to still be recruiting against the current economic backdrop. Their hard work and commitment to the customer ensures Wales is one of the best places in the UK to run a contact centre.”
