Contact centre employees in Peterborough have volunteered their time to benefit two local charities.
14 employees from the Fusion contact centre – part of the BGL group – took part in the initiative to support Little Miracles (a charity for children with additional needs and life-limiting conditions) and Cross Keys Homes (the not-for-profit charitable housing association).
Since TV show DIY SOS transformed Little Miracles’ garden in 2013, the team has struggled to manage the maintenance required to keep the garden up to its high standard. Eight employees provided further work on the garden, which will allow the children to play outside again.
Meanwhile, a second group of six employees hosted lunch and entertainment for a number of elderly people living in sheltered housing at Cross Keys Homes.
“Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their volunteering days, and there was a real buzz when they returned to the office,” said Sophie Cipriano, one of the volunteers. “It’s such a rewarding and invaluable experience to work together to make a real difference to the local community.”
“BGL Group offers its employees a paid day to volunteer at local charities and good causes each year,” said Graham Charlton, Chairman of the BGL Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility committee. “It’s a great initiative which our staff are always keen to get involved in. With more than 1,700 employees in Peterborough, we have a real opportunity to help a vast range of charities and good causes across the city.”
The volunteering is part of a charitable strategy which aims to ‘Reduce Poverty and Create Prosperity’ and donate £3 million to good causes by June 2017.
