A contact centre in Peterborough has offered its agents free bikes to cycle to work.

Fusion Contact Centre Services has made an initial 29 bikes available to encourage employees to switch from petrol to pedal power.

The scheme is in motion with 13 employees already taking up the opportunity to ditch four wheels for two.

“Biking to work has many benefits, so we wanted to offer Fusion staff a free way to do so,” said Daren Homewood, Associate Director for Fusion Peterborough. “Not only do you get healthy exercise from cycling, but it is low impact on the environment. We are delighted with the initial take-up of the scheme as it means a healthier, fitter workforce, and alleviates the demand for car parking spaces on site.”

The bikes were presented to employees by local athlete Craig Green, who, with Fusion’s sponsorship, is hoping to reach the Rio 2016 Paralympics.

“I was more than happy to help hand over the bikes as Fusion has been so helpful to me and, in particular, my quest to reach Rio 2016,” said Craig Green. “Cycling is a huge part of my life and I would encourage as many people as possible to take up the sport, even if it’s just a few short rides a week.”
