To manage security risks, semiconductor contact centers need to meet six key requirements:

1. Operate on Premises Within Secure Corporate Networks

Most contact center technology vendors now focus on cloud solutions. Many no longer support or develop on-premises solutions.

This works for many industries, but it may not meet the stricter security needs of semiconductor and discrete electronics manufacturers.

To manage risk, contact centre and help desk solutions must be available on premises. They must run inside the manufacturer’s own secure and controlled environment.

This means sensitive business information does not leave the corporate network. IT teams can manage the security requirements, while the contact centre focuses on supporting manufacturing fabs.

2. Ensure Data Sovereignty

Semiconductor manufacturers must control where sensitive data is stored. This data should not leave the corporate network or be stored in cloud data centers. Internal data sovereignty rules require information to be protected at all times.

Contact center security must support these rules. All components should run on premises to provide a secure, compliant solution that can be audited.

3. Protect Privacy

In a highly competitive market, manufacturers must protect advanced IP and product designs.

5. Ability to Scale to Support Global Operations

Semiconductor manufacturers operate on a very large scale. The largest fabs can produce more than 100,000 300mm wafers every month.

Operations are also spread across different regions to increase resilience and reduce the risk of a single point of failure. Contact centers must be flexible enough to support these global operations.

They need to consider existing organizational structure and modes of manufacturing; the contact center may need to support one central team or several distributed teams.

They must also run inside the corporate network, while supporting a single business unit, site, or region when needed. This helps manufacturers balance independence, efficiency, security, and scale.

6. Delivering Operational Resilience

Fabs run 24×7, so support systems must also be available 24×7. Production downtime can impact product delivery to customers, costing the manufacturer significant revenue.

Contact center solutions must therefore fit with existing organization standards but also be reliable and able to operate for many years.

Manufacturers need robust, proven, and easy-to-manage technology that works consistently. This supports ongoing operations and can help lower costs, improve efficiency, and reduce the time spent managing contact center technology.

Combining Innovation and Security at Scale

The semiconductor and discrete electronics manufacturing sector faces major opportunities and serious risks.

In a complex and competitive market, successful companies must combine innovation, scale, security, and efficiency.

Secure on-premises contact center solutions help achieve this balance. They protect information while providing the support needed for continuous, high-volume manufacturing.
