Service Birmingham was celebrating recently after being recognised as one of the region’s top performers at the Midlands Excellence Awards.

In front of more than 500 business leaders, the Birmingham-based organisation which provides ICT, Contact Centre, Council Tax processes and Business Transformation services for Birmingham City Council was highly commended for showing a clear commitment to continuous improvement.

Speaking after the gala ceremony, Midlands Excellence chief executive Ian Nield said: “This is a fantastic achievement for Service Birmingham and I congratulate them wholeheartedly.”

“In today’s tough climate, a commitment to excellence can make the difference between failing and succeeding and I’d encourage other businesses to follow Service Birmingham’s lead and embrace the concept of performance improvement.”

To achieve its highly commended status, Service Birmingham had to produce a detailed written submission which demonstrated its all-round performance.

The submission was then evaluated by an independent team of specially trained assessors, with results, including a site visit, being provided in a comprehensive feedback report.

Asked why they had chosen to recognise Service Birmingham, the awards jury made the following comments: “The assessors recognised this organisation for strength, vision and integrity of its leadership and strong approaches to change management. Service Birmingham was also recognised for its value-adding customer-facing approaches and management of key processes.”

Mr Nield concluded: “Every organisation we’ve recognised has undergone rigorous independent assessment and consistently demonstrated a genuine passion for excellence and performance improvement. An example to all of us, Service Birmingham has earned its place in the Midlands Excellence hall of fame.”

Welcoming the award, Service Birmingham Chief Executive Stewart Wren said: “This award reflects the commitment of our staff at all levels towards continuous improvement. Delivering services for Europe’s biggest local authority during this challenging financial environment demands dedication, vision and innovation. I’m proud to receive this award on behalf of the Service Birmingham team.”
