Employees from the Fusion contact centre volunteered their time to reinstate two stepped walkways at Hebburn Riverside Park as part of Business in the Community’s ‘Give and Gain’ day.

Eleven apprentices and their team leader were tasked to clear vegetation from the steps which had made them unusable, as well as preparing some areas for tarmacking.

The Fusion employees were part of the biggest Give and Gain Day since 2008, with more than 12,000 business volunteers from 300 companies giving over 96,000 hours of volunteering time. This equates to over £15 million-worth of support and has helped hundreds of thousands of people through good causes across the UK.

Fusion Team Leader Louise McNally said: “The day was great fun and the volunteer group demonstrated excellent teamwork. We all found it very rewarding and it showed that by working together, we were able to make a big impact on an area that will benefit hundreds of local people.”

Michelle Brannen, Regional Programme Manager for Business in the Community, added: “Fusion is unique in that it gives each employee a paid day to volunteer for a local good cause each year. We have worked with the local contact centre for a number of years and are grateful for their continued support. Our Give and Gain Day 2013 was a great success and was down to hardworking employees such as the Fusion team making a big difference to areas within their local community.”
