Salesforce has announced the acquisition of Informatica, a U.S.-based data management company, in an $8 billion deal.

The acquisition is intended to bolster Salesforce’s data infrastructure, with a focus on supporting the development and deployment of AI agents.

“This is a transformational step in delivering enterprise-grade AI that is safe, responsible, and deeply integrated with the world’s data,” said Marc Benioff, Chair and CEO of Salesforce.

Informatica’s cloud-native capabilities will be integrated into Salesforce’s platform to enable more scalable and secure AI operations across enterprise environments.

Salesforce emphasized that the deal “will establish a unified architecture for agentic AI – enabling AI agents to operate safely, responsibly, and at scale across the modern enterprise.”

The integration aims to address three key pillars of effective AI: Data transparency, data understanding and data governance.

“Imagine an AI agent that goes beyond simply seeing data points to understand their full context – origin, transformation, quality, and governance,” said Steve Fisher, President and CTO of Salesforce.

Salesforce plans to rapidly integrate Informatica’s full technology stack, including MDM, metadata, and governance tools, directly into its ecosystem. It also intends to support Informatica’s multi-cloud strategy and invest in its partner ecosystem.

“Our acquisition strategy is methodical, patient, and decisive, targeting transformative assets like Informatica,” said Robin Washington, Salesforce’s President & CFO.We’re laser-focused on accelerated execution to increase our market differentiation.”

The transaction has been approved by both companies’ boards and is expected to close in early fiscal 2027, pending regulatory clearance.

Approximately 63% of Informatica’s voting stock has already consented to the deal, requiring no further shareholder approval.
