Twenty-one npower employees in Sunderland, Peterlee and Thornaby have been promoted to team managers.  This follows their success in the company’s ‘Stepping Stones’ career development programme.

All 21 staff achieved the Level 2 Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) qualifications and can now begin to progress through to Level 5 ILM in npower’s range of in-house management programmes.

Gillian Tarelli, npower’s Resource & Talent Manager, commented: “Congratulations to all 21 new team managers. Each member of staff thoroughly deserved their promotion, and we wish them all the best of luck for the future.”

npower has on-site Learning Resource Centres offering over 3,000 courses which are available for all employees who would like to enhance their skills. The programmes range from e-learning courses to tutored qualifications. Since opening in 2005, the centres have had 8,576 course enrolments.

At management level, programmes include Stepping Stones, aimed at entry level staff; Initiate, for team managers; and Integrate, for operations manager level employees. The courses respectively award Level 2, Level 3 and Level 5 ILM nationally recognised qualifications.

Kaye Gatenby, one of the new team managers, said: “The opportunity to complete Stepping Stones and gain the ILM qualification to help me progress to a team manager role has been a great experience, giving me many useful tools and skills.”

“npower allowed me to be released from my day-to-day role to take part in the programme and I can now use the skills I’ve developed to help with my work. I had full support from npower and I didn’t realise how much I had learnt until I came to my team manager induction training.”
