Vonage has added email to its Messages API, allowing businesses to manage email alongside SMS, MMS, RCS and WhatsApp through a single platform.

The new Email API is designed for transactional communications, including order confirmations, password resets, one-time passwords (OTPs), alerts and notifications.

Existing Messages API customers can activate the email channel without adding a new integration, using the same APIs, delivery reporting and customer dashboard.

The addition also enables businesses to create workflows that combine different communication channels. For example, a message can be sent by SMS and then redirected to RCS or email if needed, all within a single API call.

According to Vonage, email reaches 4.6 billion people worldwide, with 99% of users checking their inbox daily. The company said the new API is designed to support secure delivery, real-time tracking and enterprise-scale communications.

“Today’s enterprises need to reach customers on the right channel at the right moment, and with 58 percent of people checking their email before they even open social media or the news, email remains one of the most powerful first touchpoints available,” said Fredrik Gessler, Head of Product Management, API, at Vonage.

“By bringing email into the Vonage Messages API, we’re giving businesses the tools to simplify their omnichannel strategy, reduce integration complexity, and deliver the frictionless experiences their customers expect; all from one platform they already know.”

The launch has also been welcomed by Vonage partners. Andrew Craig, CEO of Chatti, said, “Vonage gives us the flexibility to deliver a truly omnichannel communications solution to our customers through a single platform.

With SMS, MMS, RCS, WhatsApp, and now email available through the Vonage Messages API, we can simplify the integration experience while helping businesses engage their customers on the right channel at the right time.

The addition of email further strengthens our omnichannel offering, enabling us to build intelligent failover workflows and help ensure critical customer communications are delivered reliably.”

The Email API includes email authentication, delivery and engagement tracking, and pricing based on usage, with rates decreasing as volumes increase.

Vonage said these features are intended to help businesses monitor delivery and manage transactional communications alongside their existing messaging channels.
