Sabio has launched a defibrillator and heart health initiative in memory of colleague Scott Young, who passed away in 2024.
The programme was organized by Scott’s friends and colleagues across the business, who came together following his sudden passing to create a lasting legacy in his name.
Over the past year, staff have taken part in a range of fundraising activities focused on health and wellbeing, including mountain climbs, step challenges and other initiatives. These activities have raised funds through both employee participation and corporate contributions.
The funding has already supported CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) training sessions for employees, as well as the installation of a defibrillator at Sabio’s office in Glasgow.
Additional plans include installing a defibrillator in Scott’s hometown of Howwood and relocating an existing device from inside the local church to an external location to make it publicly accessible.
Further defibrillator installations are also planned at other company locations, including Sabio’s headquarters in London.
Andy Roberts said: “What our people have achieved over the past year is a remarkable example of deep care in action. In the face of an incredibly sad loss, colleagues from every corner of the business – across every region – came together to do something meaningful. This isn’t a one-off gesture. It’s a commitment to looking after one another and to ensuring that Scott’s legacy has a lasting, life-saving impact.”
He added: “From the very start, this has been about turning something so desperately sad into something positive – and the response from everyone across Sabio has been incredible.”
One of the main fundraising initiatives was the ‘Steps for Scott’ challenge, a month-long step-count competition that involved employees from across the company’s global regions. Staff also completed mountain climbs, including ascents of Ben Nevis and Snowdon.
The initiative also reflects Sabio’s wider focus on employee wellbeing and support for heart health causes, including previous fundraising activities linked to heart health charities.
