A call centre worker who has worked tirelessly to help raise more than £500,000 for good causes over the last decade received her ‘moment to shine’ recently when she took part in the Olympic torch relay.

Moyra Cossans, who celebrated 15 years’ service at the Tesco Customer Service Centre in Dundee earlier this year, was nominated by her colleagues for her passion and drive as an ever-present member of the centre’s Charity Team.

“It’s a real honour to have been chosen, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” said 53-year-old Moyra, who carried the Olympic torch in Dinnet, Aberdeenshire, in front of a crowd of hundreds of locals and was cheered on by colleagues and family members.

She added:  “I was so excited in the days leading up to it, I couldn’t stop watching the torch relay coverage on television.  It’s really captured the country’s imagination as the days count down to London 2012.

“To be nominated for being part of our Charity Team here at the centre is a great source of pride for my family, it really means a lot to us.”

And those sentiments are shared by her colleagues in the Dundee-based centre, none more so than Hilary Brown and Kim Wright, who submitted Moyra’s nomination last year.

Hilary said:  “Moyra’s passion and commitment to the Charity Team was the reason behind the nomination.  She is energetic and dedicated to our charity of the year, no matter who it is.  She has even been known to come into work early most days to work on fundraising!

“We’re all incredibly proud of Moyra.  She deserves recognition for her hard work and commitment to charity here at the centre.”

Kim added:  “Over the years, Moyra has dressed up in various costumes to promote charity events. Each week she can be seen walking about the CSC wearing her Jokers Hat (and sometimes full costume!) to promote our Jackpot Joker Fundraiser game.  She even organised a 40-seat cycle event between stores in sweltering conditions… and took part wearing full costume!”

After the event, Moyra brought the replica torch, which she gets to keep, into the centre so anyone who wanted could get a picture with a piece of contemporary history – for a small donation to charity, of course!

She has also been visiting local schools to give children a chance to ask questions about her experience and hold the torch.
