ElevenLabs has announced the official launch of its Canadian business, alongside plans to expand its local team and establish its first office in Toronto.

The AI voice technology company said it already has more than 30,000 users in Canada, ranging from individual creators to enterprise organisations, and currently employs staff across Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.

As part of the expansion, ElevenLabs has appointed Max Lemmens as General Manager for Canada. The company said Lemmens, who joined last year, has led customer deployments for organisations including Revolut and Klarna, and will oversee its growing Canadian operation.

The company also plans to double the size of its Canadian workforce this year and open its first office in Toronto, citing the city’s business ecosystem, proximity to public sector institutions and access to technology talent.

Commenting on the announcement, Vic Fedeli, Ontario’s Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, said:

“Ontario’s world-class AI talent and globally competitive technology sector continue to make our province a hub for tech companies looking to expand, innovate, and compete globally.”

He added:

“We welcome ElevenLabs’ decision to open its first Canadian office in Toronto as they add new capabilities to our innovation ecosystem, support AI adoption across key sectors, and create good-paying jobs in the province.”

Mati Staniszewski, cofounder of ElevenLabs, said:

“Canada has an exciting mix of technical talent and industries that could benefit from voice AI and conversational agents.”

He continued:

“We’re seeing strong demand from Canadian businesses and we’re building out the team locally to work even more closely with our customers.”

According to ElevenLabs, Canada presents opportunities for voice AI across sectors including financial services, healthcare, retail, telecommunications, gaming, and media, particularly given the country’s bilingual environment.

The company highlighted several existing Canadian customers, including TELUS Digital, which uses ElevenLabs’ AI voice agents to simulate customer calls for employee training. ElevenLabs said this has helped reduce onboarding time for new call centre employees by 20%.

Other organisations using the platform include The Globe and Mail for article narration, Blackbox AI for AI-powered coding agents, and Boosted.ai for conversational investment research assistants.

ElevenLabs said the expansion supports its plans to work more closely with Canadian organisations as AI adoption continues to grow across the country.
