Staff at SSE’s Penner Road office in Havant turned out in colourful force on Friday to back Blue Day. Held in support of the Tom Prince Cancer Trust, this annual event sees people across the Portsmouth area raising funds by hosting blue-themed events.
Hundreds of staff donned blue clothes, bought tasty treats in a mammoth cake sale and took part in a raffle.
Organiser Debbie Lewington, facilities assistant at the site, said: “We’ve been supporting Blue Day since 2008 as it’s such a worthwhile cause. I’m over the moon that so many of my colleagues have supported the charity by wearing blue and we’re hoping to have raised at least £700.”
The Tom Prince Cancer Trust was set up in the memory of local teenager Tom Prince and aims to raise funds for research into the teenage bone cancer Osteosarcoma. Blue Day is run in conjunction with Portsmouth Football Club, who famously play in blue, and local newspaper The News.
