The training team at one call centre have exceeded their annual fundraising target by more than £10,000.
At the beginning of 2013, the Barclaycard team at Teesside set themselves an ambitious fundraising target of £30,000, along with a volunteering target of 200 hours. Yet by the end of the year they had raised £43,214!
Fundraising events included:
- A charity bike ride for Typhoon Haiyan victims in the Philippines (agents pedalled 2,621 miles on stationary spinning bikes)
- Monthly auctions for tickets for some great gigs
- A Christmas Fayre which allowed colleagues to do some Christmas shopping on site
- Raffles
- Bake sales

In addition, the team held a Fun Day on site in Teesside. The 700-strong work force were invited to attend with their friends and family, and with the sun shining and Cash for Kids providing the music, the day was a massive success. Among the attractions were bouncy castles, rodeo bulls, mega slides, a carousel and the Head of Site being soaked with wet sponges in the stocks.

The team also embarked on series of volunteer projects. One trainer, Sarah Dunne, was in Mumbai delivering some training, and along with 8 of the local trainers organised a day at Anand Ashram, a local orphanage for 60 girls. They set off with bags of toys, 15 kilos of rice, dal and sugar, as well as a large biryani. The orphans really captured the hearts of the trainers and a return visit is planned for 2014.
Meanwhile, the team back home in the UK facilitated the delivery of Barclays Money Skills; a programme for children aged between 7 and 16, helping them to understand banking terms, the value of money and budgeting skills.

“The team’s commitment to making a real difference in the community makes me incredibly proud,” said Ray Harrison, Head of Learning at Barclaycard. “Their determination and passion is admirable.”
